Our Story

Demystify Meditation exists to support your meditation practice and mental health through instruction, information, insight, shared practice, and by providing a supportive, belief-neutral environment.

Originally, I wanted a service I could point clients to when they needed help in their meditation practice. But there just isn’t anywhere that offers clear enough instruction in a space that feels belief-neutral and welcoming to all.

I also wanted the opportunity to share the understanding and skills that promote mental health with as many people as possible. I want everyone to know how to take care of their mind, how to confidently manage difficult emotions, how to love well and enjoy life.

Hi! David here, owner and founder of dM.
I’ve always had a fascination with the mind, human emotion, and relationships. Understandably, this led me to meditation and eventually to becoming a therapist.

So I guess I’m making that opportunity happen! People deserve to understand their minds, and to master the skills they need to live the life they want. You can learn to change your relationship to your suffering. You can confidently pursue a joy-filled life of deep meaning. And it all starts with attention.

Our approach

Understand. Practice. Improve. Enjoy.

Is our approach right for you?

Various forms of meditation have existed for millennia. But what unifies all of them comes down to the human faculties of Attention & Awareness. Our approach focuses on developing flexible and stable attention, as well as improving the functional relationship between the faculties of attention and awareness (ie improve mindfulness). Because of how fundamental these faculties are, strengthening attention (and its connection to awareness) allows for much more effective mental health improvements. So alongside the meditation training, participants are instructed in the basics of self-awareness, self-compassion, emotional literacy, central nervous-system regulation, and empathic attunement. (This pulls heavily from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and some Attachment-based therapy modalities.) Lastly, the sessions are conducted in a group which meets in a nonreligious and spiritually-neutral environment. Demystify Meditation is not anti-religious nor is it resolutely secular. The intention is to do what we can to ensure that most folks can feel welcome and comfortable. Meditation and mental health are difficult and vulnerable enough as it is.

Still, there are reasons why Demystify Meditation may not be the right option for everyone. Many alternatives exist and I wish wholeheartedly for you to find the support you need in a way that works best for you.
